Police responded to a call for a person shot in the area of 9 Yarmouth Place, near Back Bay Station, around 10:47 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, Boston Police report.

Upon arrival, officers found Jason Murray suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Murray's death was incredibly hard for many to accept, especially those who grew up with the Boston native. One of Murray's friends, who described their childhood together, said he was "like a big brother" to him.

"Growing up, we would bicker like family: he would play too much, I’d play too much, we would wrestle, then he’d turn around and buy me lunch — this is just who he was," the friend wrote on Facebook. "I’m forever grateful that I got the opportunity to have Jason in my life — I pray that he can rest peacefully."

Often referred to as "The Terminator," several other posts offer a window into Murray's life, including his impact as a coach and referee in the Boston basketball scene and Gatorade mentor.

"This should not have ever happened," another friend said on Facebook. "You was ALWAYS a cool brother, just a good guy all around and we are gonna miss you."

Through it all, Murray is mostly remembered for leaving a positive impact on others

"Murray was always bettering himself and others," another friend wrote on Facebook. "Bro was never on any street stuff at all just a kid that loved basketball and that love evolved into service to his community...This is a sad situation. I'm sending my love and condolences to your family."

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Boston Police at (617) 343-4470.
